MICHELIN PILOT ROAD 2 TOPS INDEPENDENT TESTS
29 May 2007 - Michelin Tyre plc
The Pilot Road 2, Michelin’s new sports touring motorcycle tyre has come top in longevity and wet handling tests compared with its leading European competitors in the same market segment.
The tests, conducted in 2006 by independent vehicle and equipment testing company CERM, compared the Pilot Road 2 with six comparable tyres from other premium manufacturers and showed that the Michelin tyre not only lasted longer than its rivals but also offered better wet handling – two performance characteristics previously thought to be irreconcilable. To ensure fairness, the Michelin tyres were chosen at random by CERM from a production-run at the factory and the competitors’ products were purchased from European distributors. The wear tests were done in convoy on the same mixed road circuit, on identical Suzuki Bandit 1200 bikes, and the riders and machines were regularly rotated to ensure rider or machine characteristics did not affect the results. The wet handling tests were conducted on a wet handling circuit, again using the Suzuki Bandit 1200. The results for lap times, lean angles, brake pressure, throttle position and speed were obtained using Sigmalis/2D datalogging equipment to ensure accuracy. The test rankings can be found on the attached sheet, and further information on how the tests were conducted can be obtained from CERM.
