TRACKER’S NEW PRODUCT TO THROTTLE BIKE THIEVES
06 November 2004 - Tracker Network (UK) Ltd

TRACKER, the UK’s leader in stolen vehicle recovery systems, is set to throttle bike thieves with the launch of two dedicated bike products based on its highly successful tracking technology.

Called TRACKER Retrieve and TRACKER Monitor, both products utilise the VHF radio technology pioneered by TRACKER, which means that stolen bikes can be traced whether they are in the back of a van or stashed away in a garage. Unlike GPS/GSM systems, which have been designed for use on cars, there is no need for the TRACKER system to have constant ‘sight’ of a satellite, making it a much more robust and effective tool in the fight against bike crime.

Both new products are based on a re-designed, more compact TRACKER unit. The principle difference between the two TRACKER systems is that TRACKER Retrieve, the entry level product, requires the owner to contact TRACKER HQ in the event of a theft, whereas TRACKER Monitor automatically alerts TRACKER HQ if the vehicle is illegally moved. This is achieved via a modified motion sensor that allows for movement normally associated with a motorbike.

TRACKER is operated by all 52 of the UK’s police forces. The electronic homing device, secretly hidden on the bike, is activated in the event of a theft. Police vehicles fitted with special detection equipment then follow the silent signal emitted by the unit, leading them to the vehicle’s exact location.

The TRACKER Retrieve Motorcycle unit will cost £399 including installation and the first year’s subscription. Thereafter there will be an annual subscription of £109.

TRACKER Monitor will cost £499 including installation and the first year’s subscription. Thereafter the same annual subscription of £109 will apply.

Bikers planning to keep their machines for three years or more can take advantage of a single payment ‘duration of ownership’ subscription of £216 which runs from the start of the second year and lasts for the full period they retain ownership of the bike.

TRACKER is currently in discussions with major motorcycle insurers regarding insurance discounts for owners fitting a TRACKER stolen vehicle recovery system to their machines. Further information will be released at the appropriate time.

Kevin Watters, TRACKER CEO said, “Our car systems are market leading products in the fight against vehicle crime. We fully expect our specially designed motorcycle products to reproduce this level of success. We aim to offer the best security solution to return a stolen motorcycle to its owner as quickly as possible.”

More than 590,000 vehicles in the UK already use TRACKER technology. Police have recovered over 12,000 vehicles worth more than £240m since 1993 and made over 1,600 arrests.
